There was plenty of clicking and scrolling on our site last month, but readers showed these five pieces the most love overall.

- “The Mormon Excommunication of Fawn Brodie: Why Banishing the Famous Biographer Reverberates 65 Years Later” by James Reston Jr. We’re not sure why this fascinating feature — which originally appeared nearly two years ago — shot to the top of the most-read list, but we’re not complaining.
- Books Alive! 2014. Just like last month, thousands of readers zeroed in on the Independent’s excellent writer’s conference, which took place March 29th. Missed it? Read a recap here. And mark your calendars now for next year’s event, which takes place April 25, 2015.
- “The Top 10 Historical Fiction Authors” by M.K. Tod. For the zillionth month in a row, readers flocked to this much-talked-about, much-shared list of the best historical fiction authors. You people take this sort of thing seriously, don’t you?
- “8 Breeds of Historical Fiction” by David O. Stewart. We were tempted to call this one “The Top 8 Breeds of Historical Fiction,” but we didn’t want anyone blowing a hammie in the rush to click on it (see above).
- A review of The Man Who Walked Away by Carrie Callaghan. Author Maud Casey’s “Spectacular third novel,” writes Callaghan, “is a meditation on the elusive nature of time and life.” How cool does that sound? Very, judging by the number of readers who wanted to hear more about it!
