Protect freedom of speech during Banned Books Week!

A Movie with a Mission

Banned Books Week (Oct. 5-11) aims to rally defenders of free speech despite the heavy hands being laid on those with controversial opinions by the government, businesses, and so-called community leaders.

On Monday, October 6, at 7 p.m., the DMV chapter of the Authors Guild will sponsor a special FREE screening at Landmark’s Bethesda Row Cinema of “Banned Together,” an award-winning documentary about book banning, along with an open discussion of this explosive, vital issue. The film follows three activist teenagers and their adult allies as they struggle to return 97 targeted books to school libraries.

Following the showing, one of the film’s producers, Allyson Rice, will speak with Dr. Dorri C. Scott, a research consultant and founder of Virginia WOMAN Magazine, and local author Liza Achilles, who will represent the Authors Guild. Reserve your spot for this provocative film and conversation here.
