An occasional series in which writers speak for themselves.

Mississippi investigative journalist Jerry Mitchell has spent decades chronicling some of the most heinous — and unprosecuted — racially motivated crimes from the past half-century. He recounts those efforts in Race Against Time: A Reporter Reopens the Unsolved Murder Cases of the Civil Rights Era, which the Independent praised for the author’s “ability to weave a compelling narrative, much like a police procedural, outlining how reluctant prosecutors are convinced to fight for justice.”
Mitchell recently discussed his new book with author/attorney Talmage Boston. Listen to the podcast here.
