An occasional series in which writers speak for themselves.
An award-winning journalist and founder of the Madam Walker Family Archives, A’Lelia Bundles is also the author of On Her Own Ground: The Life and Times of Madam C.J. Walker, based on the life of her great-great-grandmother, which was turned into the Netflix limited series “Self Made.” Her new book is Joy Goddess: A’Lelia Walker and the Harlem Renaissance, which chronicles the accomplishments of her trailblazing great-grandmother and namesake. Kirkus calls the work “an engaging biography of a formidable woman.” Bundles discussed Joy Goddess with fellow BIO member Eric K. Washington in June.
