An occasional series in which writers speak for themselves.

Authors on Audio: Amrita Chakrabarti Myers

The Ruth N. Halls associate professor of history and gender studies at Indiana University, Amrita Chakrabarti Myers is also the award-winning author of Forging Freedom: Black Women and the Pursuit of Liberty in Antebellum Charleston and, more recently, The Vice President’s Black Wife: The Untold Life of Julia Chinn. Ms. Magazine calls the latter “a deeply researched and elegantly written biography…[that] investigates Chinn’s life at home and within her community to explore how she navigated the racial and social hierarchies of the 19th century.” Myers discussed The Vice President’s Black Wife with BIO member Jenny Skoog in June.
