Children’s Book Roundup: November 2025

How to Find a Yeti by Matt Hunt (Nosy Crow). “I have borrowed all 27 yeti books from the library. I have a pair of yeti slippers (not made from real yeti). I also have a 1:16 scale cardboard cutout of a yeti in my bedroom.” The little boy just knows the mysterious creature is real and that it’s out there somewhere! So, he and his dog, Milo, set off in the woods to find it. When they don’t, the disappointed youngster heads back home, accidentally leaving his scarf behind. Who (or what) will return it to him in the night?

Vida: The Mice, the Cat, and the Alebrije by Duncan Tonatiuh (Abrams). “Mousetepec was a vibrant town known for its mercado…Mice from all over the region came to shop and meet with friends. Vida and her brother, Máximo, helped their mom sell the colorful piñatas she made.” But when a shadowy, rodent-eating gato begins threatening the mice, the siblings must find a way to banish it and restore the peace. Might the mythical (but friendly) alebrije, with its “yellow horns, fuchsia feathers, a neon-green tail, and fluorescent claws,” be able to help them?

Oh Dear, Look What I Got! by Michael Rosen (author) and Helen Oxenbury (illustrator) (Candlewick). “I went to the shop to get me a carrot. Oh dear, they gave me…a parrot! Oh dear, look what I got! Do I want that? No, I do NOT!” The boy only needs a few simple things — a hat, a coat, a cake, etc. — but each store he visits gets his order wildly wrong. What’s he supposed to do with the cat, the goat, the snake, and the rest of the silly menagerie he ends up with? Don’t worry — it turns out, every “wrong” order is just right for somebody!
