A longtime journalist and editor-at-large of Outside magazine, Hampton Sides is also the author of several books, including Hellhound on His Trail: The Electrifying Account of the Largest Manhunt in American History; Americana: Dispatches from the New Frontier; and In the Kingdom of Ice: The Grand and Terrible Polar Voyage of the USS Jeannette. His latest nonfiction work is The Wide Wide Sea: Imperial Ambition, First Contact and the Fateful Final Voyage of Captain James Cook, which Booklist calls “beautifully written and impeccably researched.”
